Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Since June 2012.
What is your primary product or service?
We provide Landscape Architectural services, including site planning Irrigation design and landscape design. Mostly to the upper margins of the residential sector. We specialize in high mountain and desert style landscapes for private retreats and resort style developments.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I was roped into landscaping by dating a girl in High School whose father was a landscape contractor, and found landscape design to be a great fit for me with my interests in Art and Nature.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
I bring a deep understanding of ecology and wildlife in the Mountain West to my projects. While many Design professionals are only educated and lack specific hands on experience, that is not the case for me an my firm. I live and play in the wild places that I also work in; and that brings a certain respect for natural systems into my designs.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
One, no plans for expansion.
Provide detailed directions to your location
I am on Main Street in Park City, just above Alpaca. Its a blue building with wood siding. You can park on street or in the public parking by Swede Ave.
What type of payments do you accept?
I mostly wire transfers or pay-pal, since my clientele is often on the move or defer payments from their advisors. I do take checks and credit cards as well.
Which areas do you service?
The Mountain west. From Tucson to Glacier. and Tahoe to Boulder. Though the majority is central to the Rockies in Utah, Wyoming and Colorado.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
I do personally run my company and see to all the daily operations.
What are your hours of operation?
9-5
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
That they had no idea it was designed. That they thought the site or location of the project was just naturally stunning. Because many of my projects are in wild areas this is often the goal. Due to the damage that building inflicts on the land, a restoration effort is always required especially in environmentally sensitive areas to restore the views, and the feel of the site when the owner first fell in love with the location.
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
I don't do religion, but I have a respect for Shakespeare's character Polonius and his wise sayings in Hamlet: "neither a borrower nor a lender be","brevity is the soul of wit", "though this be madness, yet there is method in it", And "this above all; to thy own self be true, and it will follow as the night does to the day that thou canst not be false with any man." They all apply to the practice of business, and architecture well.
