State-founded agency charged with administering and paying for features of the Central Utah Project.
Central Utah Water Conservancy District is the sponsor of the massive Central Utah Project, which stretches from the Uinta Basin to the Wasatch Front and encompasses dams, reservoirs, pipelines, tunnels, diversions, and three water treatment plants. The largest, Utah Valley Water Treatment Plant, is situated at the mouth of Provo Canyon and furnishes treated water to Utah County residents.
Although the District is a water wholesaler to the wholesaler and has no retail customers, it has a number of water conservation programs aimed at helping individual homeowners use their water efficiently. Rebates and small grants are available--information and forms are available at www.cuwcd.com/rebates. The District has recently built the Central Utah Gardens, a resource for Utah homeowners hoping to find water-efficient plants and plant care information. Come visit at 355 W. University Parkway, and talk to the experts!
